February 3rd Jazz Tales welcomed Saxophonist and Clarinetist Bill Mulligan

Bill Mulligan has been active in the Washington DC area as a saxophonist, clarinetist, flutist, and educator since 1997. He has performed and/or recorded with numerous local groups, including the Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra, Eric Felten’s Jazz Orchestra, the Radio King Orchestra, as well as the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, National Philharmonic Orchestra, the Master Chorale of Washington, and the Washington Choral Arts Society.

He has been a member of the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra since 2007, and the Navy’s premier jazz ensemble, the United States Navy Band Commodores, since 1997. Prior to coming to Washington DC, he was a saxophone and clarinet soloist for three European tours of Duke Ellington’s Sophisticated Ladies and traveled to six continents as a musical director for Princess Cruises.

An extremely versatile musician, he has had the pleasure of performing with such luminaries as Ella Fitzgerald, Nancy Wilson, Henry Mancini, Doc Severinson, Johnny Mathis, Bernadette Peters, Barry Manilow, Stanley Turrentine, Joe Lovano, Phil Woods, James Moody, Branford Marsalis, Eddie Daniels, Chris Potter, Bill Watrous, Bob Mintzer, John Clayton, Take 6, James Taylor, Jason Mraz, Colbie Caillat, Babyface, Maurice Hines, the Four Tops, the Temptations, Idina Menzel, Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga.
