"The two New York musicians demonstrate that they are getting out of the cage (now in fashion) of the canonical jazz reinterpretation, going beyond the limits of diligent work and respect for tradition. They are undoubtedly personalities of great musical depth, destined to keep themselves out of the conventions in force.”
— MAURIZIO ZERBO, All About Jazz
Pianist Nicki Adams and saxophonist Michael Eaton play music from celebrated and genre-defining jazz composers, interweaving elements and ideas from Western classical music. They integrate divergent musical languages in a conversational style, integrating virtuosity, timbre and swing. Using modal and bebop standards as a template, the arrangements draw on Debussy's piano preludes, Bartók's piano etudes, Iranian Khush Rank rhythmic cycles, and an array of other musical influences.
