Brian's acoustic jazz trio with Tom Zink and Charles Ruggiero playing the music of the classic Bill Evans Trio that featured the amazing Scott LaFaro on bass! For those of who might not know who Scott LaFaro was, he was one of the most inventive and creative bassists in the history if jazz. He was tragically killed in a car accident driving home from a gig when he was only 25 years old, a tragic loss.
Brian was born December 5th, 1960, in Tucson Arizona. He grew up in a family of musicians and artists. His father and brother played the drums. With all that music around the house, and drums all over the place, it was natural for Brian to start playing the drums as well. At 13 years old Brian was working four nights a week as a drummer.
In elementary and Jr. high school, Brian also played the cello, and that evolved to the bass so Brian could also play jazz. From ages fourteen to eighteen, Brian locked himself up in a room and practiced day and night. Testing out of high school early and devoting all his time to music, for the next few years Brian played every type of gig imaginable. Quite often Brian would play five to seven nights a week with several different bands.
Brian's first big break came in 1979 when Marc Johnson, the wonderful bassist with the great jazz pianist Bill Evans, heard Brian play, and recommended Brian to legendary jazz saxophonist Stan Getz. Brian joined the Stan Getz quintet in December of 1979 at nineteen years old, and that was the launching pad for Brian’s career as a live performance and session bassist.
Since then, Brian has performed on many major Hollywood movie soundtracks, television shows, and has toured, performed, and or recorded with some of the greatest artists of our time. Brian's solo career began with the release of his first album A New Day in 1986. Since that first album Brian has released 28 solo projects globally and received his first Grammy Nomination in 2007 for his chart-topping CD “Downright Upright.” Brian has produced more than 13 top #10, top #5, and #1 hit songs as well as selling over a quarter million albums as a jazz bassist.
Brian's current release is called "LaFaro" It is a tribute to the late ground-breaking bassist from the classic Bill Evans Trio, Scott LaFaro. Scott LaFaro tragically was killed in a car accident driving home from a gig when he was 25 years old back in 1961. This album is a classic jazz trio recording truly honoring the legacy of Scott LaFaro and the Bill Evans Trio.
Brian is regarded as one of the most versatile and in demand jazz bassists in the jazz scene today.
