Lucy Wijnands, 26 year old award winning jazz vocalist from NYC makes her Brussels debut at Blues Alley, April 15, 2024.
Lucy grew up in Kansas City, also known as the “Cradle of Jazz” and home to many of the greats that include her father, master stride pianist, Bram Wijnands. Her early years were quite literally spent cradled on her father’s lap while his hands bounced from one side of the piano to the next, giving her an understanding of swing music at a very young age. As a teenager, she began singing at his gigs in Kansas City, further developing her style and later mastering it at SUNY Purchase as an Ella Fitzgerald Scholar. After being named the Ella Fitzgerald Competition Winner in 2021, Lucy is now a regular on NYC’s jazz scene and has been described as a “formidable vocal talent” in the December 2023’s Hot House Magazine. She released her debut album "Something Awaits" in summer of 2023 and will be touring Europe & Asia in spring of 2024. Just as Lucy continues to share the legacy of Ella Fitzgerald, she also continues to continue the legacy of her musical roots. Join Father and daughter for a very special Ella Fitzgerald Tribute.
“Lucy has it - something not easy to define in words, but the innate ability to marry notes and convey emotion with a down-to-earth authenticity,” JazzLives, 2023
