Singled out for her performances of uncommon communicative ability and dramatic stage presence, Japanese pianist Hidemi “Mimi” Minagawa is emerging as a musical poet with full of drama. Specializing in contemporary music and specifically the music of Alexander Scriabin, she has collaborated with living composers such as Michael Thomas Foumai, Michael Hersh, Logan Skelton, and her other composition friends. As of a Scriabin specialist, Mimi has been performing mainly the Romantic repertoire of Scriabin so far, and she is interested in exploring his Piano Concerto and his late repertoire in next season. Mimi has full of colors, dynamics, sounds, and drama for Romantic repertoire, which she performs often.
Mimi made her debut as a soloist with the SAR Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra in 2007. Since then, she has repeatedly won top prizes in such events as New York International Piano Competition, the Seattle International Piano Competition, Jacob Flier International Piano Competition, Lima Symphony Young Artists Competition, Music Teachers National Association Competition, Ann Arbor Camerata Concerto Competition, and University of Michigan Concerto Competition. She has also collaborated with the Hudson Valley Orchestra, University Philharmonic Orchestra at University of Michigan, Lima Symphony Orchestra, and Ann Arbor Camerata Orchestra. Mimi was a full scholarship recipient at the University of Michigan, where she completed her Bachelor’s degree. She also received nearly full scholarship at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University for her Master’s degree as well. Her upcoming concert engagements include a solo recital at Malone University in 2018. Hidemi is currently pursuing her Master’s degree at Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University with Boris Slutsky.
