Sue Matthews and Robert Redd

Sue Matthews and Robert Redd keep us swinging! LIVE Friday July 10 at 7 pm $5.

Like so many organizations, The Mainstay has been deeply affected by the COVID-19 crisis. The Mainstay has been dark since mid-March. The intimate nature of The Mainstay and the very act of producing music in a cozy space have made it impossible to continue the Mainstay’s central mission of providing world class live music to Kent County and beyond from our stage…until now!

The Mainstay is producing a series of concerts from our stage direct to the listener’s home via a private high quality live video stream. All concerts are available for a $5 ticket price.

Sue Matthews, long a Mainstay favorite returns to our stage with her favorite musical compatriot, pianist Robert Redd for an evening swing, standards, and the American Songbook.  This socially distanced show will feature the sophisticated swing of Mr. Redd and Sue's fabulous vocal stylings

Sue Matthews is a superb singer with a silky voice, exquisite phrasing and passion for finding every bit of meaning in song. Give her a great song, no matter how familiar, and she will find in it fresh nuance and new depth of meaning.

Sue Matthews came to the music world’s attention in 1991, when she released the traditional jazz album “Love Dances.” She was soon playing clubs and festivals and her next release “When You’re Around,” reached the top 20 on the Gavin and R & R Jazz charts. Since then she has released a number of recordings and become a favorite throughout the mid-Atlantic jazz clubs, concert halls, jazz festivals and television studios and, of course, at The Mainstay.

She has been a featured artist at the W.C. Handy Music Festival, with the Calgary Philharmonic, the Florida Symphony, the Mid-Atlantic Jazz Showcase in NYC and the Saluzzo Musical Festival in Italy as well as artist-in-residence at the Clifden Arts Week Festival, County Galway, Ireland and at Augusta Heritage Center. She is a two-time recipient of the Maryland State Arts Council individual artist award.

Robert Redd tours internationally as the pianist with the Duke Ellington Orchestra. He was previously with the Keter Betts trio, the Wolf Trap Jazz Series, and musical director for Kenny Rankin.
