Award-winning instrumentalist, composer and bandleader George Burton is an independent artist whose prolific work and performances have garnered an NAACP Image Award nomination (Outstanding Jazz Album - Instrumental, 2021), and have been featured in the New York Times, NPR, the Washington Post, and many others. A true visionary who consistently impresses both on record and in the live music scene, he has been called “formidable” (NPR), “revolutionary” (Nextbop), and “soulful” (Philadelphia Inquirer); his music “multidimensional” (Philadelphia Inquirer), “sublime” (NPR).
Burton has released two full-length albums: The Truth Of What I Am > The Narcissist (2016), and Reciprocity (2020), which were both received to international critical acclaim. Burton’s stunningly distinctive style and eclectic approach beautifully reflect his experience, beginning with rigorous classical training and branching into the heady nightlife of the Philadelphia jazz scene before taking on the NYC scene and performing worldwide, both as a bandleader and a highly sought-after sideman.
When he is not leading his own bands, George Burton can be found on stage with the Dezron Douglas Quartet, Marquis Hill, and others
