Musician and Author Wes Watkins has carved his place in the musical landscape of the Washington, D.C. area by playing for R&B, Gospel, Rock, Jazz, Neo Soul, Hip- Hop, Blues and legendary Go-Go bands.

Malachi, The Fabulous Thunderbirds and drummer for Got My Own Sound, Sirius Company (Scooby and Ms. Kim), What? Band and Walker Redds Project, was inspired by watching and imitating the awe-inspiring dexterity of his father’s drum style. He recalls tossing his drumsticks in the air and watching drum videos as a kid, perfecting his performance as well as his sound.
By age 7, Watkins was noticed by Richard Smallwood and asked to play for his Gospel choir and music workshops. At this time, Watkins realized music was his passion and what he wanted to spend his life pursuing.
Watkins was heavily influenced by Go-Go-- a style of music established in Washington, D.C., heavy in percussion where the drummer drives the beat with the conga player.
At age 9, the enterprising young drummer organized his first band at school creating his own experience. He began performing locally and gigging with the area’s top acts and sharing the stage with bands such as Lissen Band, Vybe, Suttle Thoughts, Familiar Faces, Faycez You Know, Ten Commandments, What? Band and many more.
Watkins did his first International Drum Clinic in Amsterdam and teamed up with “Shed Sessions” at the Drumland Music Store, with over 200 people in attendance to watch him take to the stage to perform, speak, and field questions.
Wes has had the pleasure of working with many artists in the Washington, D.C. area. Greats like Carolyn Malachi, Recording Jazz artist Marcus Johnson, Eric Marner and Brave New World, Earl Carter, Frank Sirius, Temika Moore.
He has toured Internationally with Carolyn Malachi and with The Fabulous Thunderbirds to Europe and throughout the entire U.S. Thunderbirds are an American blues rock band, formed in Texas 1974, and they have been touring since their start after acquiring Watkins as the full time drummer back in January of 2016.
Watkins has been invited to record studio work with artist such as Thats Enough by Temika Moore, The End of Me EP by Temika Moore and i5 Anthem by i5 Church, Clarence Spady Blues record, Rise by Carolyn Malachi, Strong Like That by The Fabulous Thunderbirds.
He released his first album titled "Got My Own Sound" in February of 2016. The single titled Sky, featuring Carolyn Malachi, was produced and arranged by Watkins along with the help of Branden Jacobs and written by Carolyn Malachi. It’s Currently Available on iTunes. This album hit number four on the iTunes Charts.
At the beginning of 2018 Wes and his band Got My Own Sound dropped their second album titled "Welcome To Our World" and this song landed at number one the iTunes Charts. In addition to the highly anticipated book titled, "The Life That Created My Own Sound" dropping February 2019, Wes will be releasing a new music next year. His EP titled “Out of Love” will be available in February 2019.
