Martina Barta is a young, multitalented Czech singer and musician, born in Prague and based in Berlin. She has performed at national and international music festivals and venues worldwide. At age four, Martina began her musical journey at a primary music school in her hometown of Prague, taking flute, violin and piano lessons. In 1999, she focused on classical music at the Music College of the city of Prague (Gymnázium Jana Nerudy), where she added French horn lessons with Prof. Vladimira Klánská. In May 2007, she passed her final exams and graduated with honors. From 2008-2011, she studied at the Prague Conservatory and took vocal lessons with Prof. Wepperová. In 2011, she was accepted into the Jazz Vocal Bachelor Music Program at the Jazz Institute Berlin (Universität der Künste Berlin). She took vocal lessons with Prof. Judy Niemack and Prof. David Friedman. In June 2016, she passed her final exam with honors, performing the concert “Martina Barta & Her Jazz Orchestra,” and received a Bachelor of Music degree. In 2017, she represented the Czech Republic with the song “My Turn” at the international Eurovision Song Contest in Kiev. She regularly cooperates with Big Band der Deutschen Oper Berlin and Big Band of Felix Slovacek. In 2019, Martina started performing in a duo with the legendary American jazz vibraphonist David Friedman. She also regularly performs with her older sister, Kristina Barta, who is a successful Czech jazz pianist and composer. In 2016, they won 1st prize for the best jazz song “Find Peace of Mind” during the Bohemia JazzFest music festival. They collaborated on the album Love and Passion (Alessa Records) in 2020. Martina garnered a DAAD / German Academic Exchange Service Scholarship in 2021 to attend the prestigious Manhattan School of Music in New York, where she takes classes in the Jazz Arts Master Program (Prof. Buster Williams, Prof. Theo Bleckmann ). She aspires to earn her Master's in Music in May 2023.
