Dara Starr Tucker Album Release Show
Referred to as "a fighter for social justice wielding music as a balm," (Grammy.com) acclaimed vocalist and songwriter Dara Starr Tucker melds her presence as a jazz and roots singer-songwriter with her growing notoriety as a social media commentator on race, cultural equity, music, and film on her self-titled new album, Dara Starr Tucker. Over the past 18 months, Tucker has amassed an astounding combined audience of over one million followers via the Tik Tok, Facebook, and Instagram platforms. Her video commentary and music have been featured with HBO, BET.com, FX, OWN Network, Revolt! TV, Ebony/Jet and Shonda Rhimes' Shondaland.
Her sound and scope provides needed catharsis in a post-pandemic world with emphasis on self-reflection, mental wellness and, ultimately, healing. As evidenced on her eponymously titled album, the singer is making her mark by blending the melodic, soulful strains of jazz with the lyrical richness of the central plains. "My desire is that people would sense a unity between the content I share online, and the music I make on the stage - it all comes from the same place," Tucker said.
In performance, Tucker showcases lively originals alongside inspired arrangements of modern and classic songs by writers such as Billie Eilish, Bill Withers, John Denver, Hoagy Carmichael and Kurt Weill. Tucker's striking compositions are equal parts contemplation and commentary and undoubtedly elevates her standing as a premier contemporary songwriter in the jazz space. Tucker has toured with her own bands and as a featured vocalist with hybrid guitarist Charlie Hunter's group. Additionally, she has opened for Grammy-winning vocalist Gregory Porter, appeared on NPR's Jazz Night in America and made her national television debut on The Tavis Smiley Show on PBS.
