Mauricio Miranda

Chilean singer and multi-instrumentalist Mauricio Miranda has a Master of Arts in Music Theory from the National Conservatory of the Universidad de Chile and was the winner of the prestigious FONDART price/scholarship. Over the last 10 years living in Washington DC, Mauricio has performed at several venues in the DMV, singing and playing styles such as jazz, bossa-nova, folk, blues, rock, funk, latin, flamenco, and pop. Also, Mauricio has been strongly involved in the DC music scene producing events, promoting artists, and collaborating on diverse local artistic projects.

He began his soloist career in Chile and South America, and continued his training in Europe and North America with Bruno Pola in Germany, Isabel Penagos in Spain and Diana Soviero in the U.S. He graduated from the Washington National Opera's Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program, which was founded and directed by Placido Domingo.

He has performed at Palacio Euskalduna in Bilbao; Teatro Goldoni in Livorno, Teatro La Laboral in Gijon; Gran Teatro Nacional in Lima; Teatro Municipal de Santiago; Teatro Real de Madrid; and at Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., among others.

His repertoire include Count Almaviva in “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” by Rossini, Don Ottavio in “Don Giovanni” and Ferrando in “Cosi fan tutte” by Mozart, Ernesto in “Don Pasquale” by Donizetti, Nadir in “Les pecheurs de perles” by Bizet, Rinuccio in “Gianni Schicchi” by Puccini and Fenton in “Falstaff” by Verdi, among others.

He played in two world premieres: as Recruit 3 in “Viento Blanco” by Sebastian Errázuriz at Teatro Municipal de Santiago, and as Dr. Steve Vergara in “A Game of Hearts” by Douglas Pew with the Washington National Opera.

His oratorio repertoire includes works by Bach, Haendel, Vivaldi, Mozart, Rossini, Beethoven and Schubert. He has performed concerts in Chile, Argentina, Peru, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United States.

He worked with conductors as Maurizio Benini, Louis Salemno, Dimitry Jurowsky, Jan Latham-Koenig, Roberto Rizzi-Brignoli and Daniele Rustioni; and directors as Emilio Sagi, David Gately, Anne Bogart, Hugo de Ana and Jean Louis Grinda.

He sang Mozart’s “Requiem” at the Washington National Cathedral; has sung the role of Eros in the U.S. premiere of the opera "Diane au bois" by Claude Debussy, with the Virginia Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Emil De Cou; he played as Flavio in “Norma” de Bellini with Washington National Opera; and he performed Cassio in “Otello” and Pong in “Turandot” with Opera de Lima.

With Maryland Lyric Opera he appeared recently in “An evening of Puccini” Gala at the Kay Theatre – UMD; as Joe in “La fanciulla del West” by Verdi; as Venditore di canzonette in “Il Tabarro” by Verdi; as The Emperor Altoum in “Turandot” by Puccini; as Il Conte di Lerma in “Don Carlo” by Verdi; as Don Curzio in “Le nozze di Figaro” by Mozart; as Malcolm in “Macbeth” by Verdi; as The Judge in “Un ballo in maschera” by Verdi; and as Doctor Cauis in “Falstaff” by Verdi, all of them at Strathmore Concert Hall in North Bethesda, MD.
