Langston Hughes II is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, and bandleader based in New York City whose music radiates with beauty, passion, and positivity. Through each piece he performs or composes, he invites the audience to share in his life experiences, paying homage to the iconic musicians who have influenced him while also embodying a distinctive sound inspired by his faith.
Langston is a graduate of Howard University in Washington, DC and is a current student at The Juilliard School in New York City. He has been the recipient of an array of awards and achievements, including being a featured soloist for the United States Army Blues Orchestra and a Strathmore Artist in Residence during their 2021-2022 performance season. He was also selected to participate in the Betty Carter Jazz Ahead Residency at the John F. Kennedy Center where he had the opportunity to study under jazz greats such as Jason Moran, Marcus Printup, Peter Martin, Clarence Penn, Casey Benjamin, Micheal Bowie, Chris Thomas, and Chamille Thurman.
Langston continues to develop his skills, knowledge, and creative thinking through teachers and mentors such as Charlie Young III, Cyrus Chestnut, Allyn Johnson, Bruce Williams, and others.
