Julian Berkowitz is a young up-and-coming jazz musician who’s quickly making a name for himself in the DMV. As a graduate of the George Washington University, he’s studied under Alejandro Lucini—one of DC’s top Brazilian jazz drummers—and has worked closely with bassist Herman Burney, saxophonist Peter Fraize, pianist Jim Levy and trumpeter Thad Wilson. Julian has also had the opportunity to study with some of the world’s top jazz drummers, including Eric Harland and Quincy Phillips.
Julian seeks to be a well-rounded drummer. His repertoire incorporates swing, Brazilian jazz, Latin jazz, and funk. At the age of 22, he’s already played with many of the DMV’s top musicians, including Mike Pope, Ted Efantis, Tim Murphy, Leonardo Lucini, Nicole Saphos, John Lee, Leonardo Lucini, and Peter Edelman. Julian has performed at Twins as a sideman several times, but now he’s ready to bring his own group to Twins for the debut performance of the Julian Berkowitz Group.
