Join Attic Sessions, a DC-based neo soul & jazz collective, for a night of captivating performance and improvisation.
What was once a literal attic where friends sought solace through the pandemic, Attic Sessions is now a metaphor for the creative space where the influences of jazz, neo soul and blues coalesce into one of DC’s freshest collectives.
Initially drawn in by infectious energy and high-caliber musicianship, audiences stay engaged due to the group’s subtle sophistication that never eclipses their listenability. The band’s sound, characterized by soulful vocals, groove, ethereal harmonies and improvisation, is unique for this matter.
Attic Sessions’ debut album, Realize The Tide / Lost, features 9 contrasting yet highly cohesive songs. Within the piece, a lush jazz ballad (Colliding) gives way to searing guitar fusion (How Do I Choose?), which gives way to polyrhythmic drum figures (Forgetful). The work released in May of 2021 at the AMP by Strathmore at the end of lead singer, Taisha Estrada’s residency there.
Though young in age, the group’s members are already accruing accolades. Individually they have received various Downbeat awards, mention in the Washington Post and NPR’s Tiny Desk, and honors in the Ella Fitzgerald International Vocal Competition.
Always eager to write, the group is actively working on songs, and will be presenting new music on January 30th at Blues Alley.
