Born in the Chesapeake Bay basin, steeped in Delta blues and raised on jazz swing is how we would describe “Big Joe” Maher. He cut his teeth on the road with Washington, DC’s own Uptown Rhythm Kings and with Telly master Tom Principato. But his biggest break of all was when he formed his legendary 5-piece jump band Big Joe and the Dynaflows. He has been a musician, a producer, a recording artist and in 2019 he took home a GRAMMY award as drummer on Delbert McClinton’s “Tall, Dark and Handsome” release. His pairing with guitarist Dave Chappell follows the “Anacostia Delta” tradition with what truly defines the musical mastery of Washington, DC.
