Burke School’s Intermediate and Advanced Bands are proud to be founding participants in the annual Big Band Jam on the Mall, and to have performed annually, aside from Covid times, at Blues Alley since 2004. Drawing on a wide range of genres and eras of music, Burke’s repertoire ranges from Duke to Brubeck, Billie to Norah Jones. This year’s bands play Freddie Hubbard, Herbie Hancock, Sonny Rollins, Stevie Wonder, and Antonio Carlos Jobim, among others. Burke bands are noted for their eclectic repertoire and entertaining vocalists. Directed by John Howard, they perform regularly for major school functions and area jazz festivals.
