Originally from Trinidad & Tobago, flutist & composer David Bertrand is a distinctive voice in the NYC jazz scene. A graduate of the Queens College jazz program, he has performed at the Kennedy Center and various jazz festivals in the Caribbean.
In addition to his work as a sideman, David leads a group devoted to playing his original music, driven by an interest to find organic, personal intersections between modern jazz and the folkloric rhythms and song forms of his homeland.
Formed in 2013, the David Bertrand Quartet has received much positive press for their inaugural album, “Palmyra and Other Places”, released by Blujazz 2017.
The group has performed at several notable NYC venues including The Cornelia Street Café, ShapeShifter Lab, Nublu, Spectrum, the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music concert hall and a three-month winter residency at Club Bonafide in 2018.
