LiederCore: Schumann and Schubert
Ryan de Ryke has performed at many of the leading international music festivals including Aldeburgh and the festival at Aix-en-Provence. Mary Johnson wrote in the Baltimore Sun, “Once again baritone Ryan de Ryke proved that he has few peers in negotiating an immensely vocal range, and he does so while maintaining a magnificent tone.” He has become a key member of Chicago's important Haymarket Opera Company, consistenly garnering high praise from the Chicago Tribune and Sun Times, in the title role of Handel's "Pimpinone" among other roles. Besides much opera and oratorio work, he is intensely devoted to art song, and has maintained an artistic partnership with Roger Vignoles, with whom he has given recitals of settings of Heinrich Heine. With Daniel Schlosberg he has appeared multiple times at the Phillips Collection, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, among other venues.
Daniel Schlosberg has been described as an "expert pianist" (Boston Globe), and his performances have been praised for their "intellect and passion" (Washington Post). As a collaborative pianist, Tim Smith of he Baltimore Sun wrote that he “was a model accompanist, bringing out the remarkable richness of the piano writing." Mr. Schlosberg has appeared as featured soloist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in subscription concerts, as well as numerous chamber music and new music concerts. His latest release is 40@40, featuring brand new art song with noted soprano, Laura Strickling. He has served as a staff pianist for Ravinia’s Steans Music Institute vocal program, and is the founder and director of the Baltimore Lieder Weekend. The musicologist Susan Youens is widely regarded as one of the world’s foremost authorities on German song, and the music of Franz Schubert and Hugo Wolf. She is one of very few people in the United States who have won four fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities, as well as fellowships from the National Humanities Center, the Guggenheim Foundation, and the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton. Her many books, innovative in their approach, have been published by Cambridge University Press and Princeton University Press. She is also in demand as a coach in song repertoire at institutions such as the Steans Institute for Young Artists at Ravinia, the Guildhall School in London, and Juilliard.
