Paul Shapiro’s Ribs & Brisket
Latin Night at The Triad!
Paul Shapiro’s Ribs & Brisket is throwing a big ol’ party celebrating the mash-up of Latin and Jewish-American music that once lit up the Catskills. There will be awesome tunes, great grooves, and a healthy dose of comedy!
We’re super excited to have the amazing Edwin Lugo joining us! He’s been on Broadway in Paul Simon's The Capeman, and he’s also a talented songwriter and vocalist, featured on the Grammy-winning album Just Chillin’ by Norman Brown. He’s performed with Ribs & Brisket before, so you know this is gonna be a fun reunion. He’ll team up with Cilla Owens and Paul Shapiro for a lively (and sometimes hilarious) ride as they mambo, cha-cha, and swing through the Jewish Alps.
Expect to hear hits like Slim Gaillard’s Mishugana Mambo, Mickey Katz’s Yiddishe Mambo, and the classic Catskills overindulgence anthem Essen. Cilla’s debuting a bawdy track entitled Pizza, while Shapiro’s bringing the fun with his take on Allan Sherman’s You’re the Top. The rhythm section of Jerry Korman, Dave Hofstra and Tony Lewis will be cooking up some serious heat!
Eleanor Reissa is out of town for now, but don’t worry—she’ll be back soon. It’s gonna be a night of amazing music and laughs, so don’t miss it!
Kirk Silsbee writes …the band plays like a juke joint combo used to dodging beer bottles and bullets. Shapiro's nasty tenor sax breaks would have qualified him for duty at Duffy's Gaieties on Cahuenga Boulevard, when Lenny Bruce emceed for the peelers in the '50s.
