Lowell Ringel
Lowell Ringel is an award-winning bassist, composer, and educator whose playing draws on the lineage of Charlie Haden and Scott LaFaro. He is known for his lyrical soloing, as well as his steady, yet creative, sense of groove and rhythm.
Ringel earned his BM and MM at the Frost School of Music, where he became immersed in Latin jazz and Cuban music. Since then he has performed and recorded alongside masters of both traditions, including Ignacio Berroa, Aymee Nuviola, Brian Lynch, Shelly Berg, Dafnis Prieto, and Martin Bejerano.
As a composer, Ringel blends jazz sensibilities, rhythmic intensity, and classical vocabulary into compositions imbued with a rich color palette. That voice can be heard on the 2019 self-titled debut of his chamber-jazz quintet Threeplustwo and on Geodesics, the 2020 release from Finnish-American collective Transatlanttiset.
He lives in Forest Park, Illinois, where he performs regularly across the Chicagoland area with a variety of artists.
