Thu Aug 6
Mike Geffner’s Inspired Word, one of New York City’s most popular indie performance series, presents Mike’s 70th birthday Music Spectacular.
The night features…
Jolie Rose – an 18-year-old singer/songwriter who fuses nostalgic glamour with the raw honesty of a diary entry. She captures the "beauty and chaos" of youth through a cinematic lens—pairing dreamy production with poetic storytelling. Beyond her music, Jolie founded the non-profit Voices to End Hunger, providing over 600,000 meals to New Yorkers. A fresh, unforgettable force, she is shaping the world through both her art and her advocacy.
Sarah Keane & the Decade Runners - a femme rock band whose musical inspiration spans across decades— as their name suggests. They have primarily played shows with InspiredwordNYC at Brooklyn Music Kitchen, although each member of the band has played at a variety of different venues including Joanne Trattoria, Don’t Tell Mama, Vetro Restaurant and Lounge, Stone Circle Theatre etc. Sarah (singer), Nella (guitarist), and Nike (drummer), are excited to continue playing, writing music together and defying this decade’s expectations to produce a unique and authentic sound.
Brittany Renee - a musical artist making alternative and dark pop with touches of jazz and R&B. She has been around music her whole life, and it shows in how naturally her songs come together. Influenced by artists like Billie Eilish, Olivia Dean, Tate McRae, and Aaliyah, her sound feels emotional, honest, and easy to sink into. Her music is meant to meet people wherever they are.
Guy Simoneau - a singer/songwriter and veteran of the Triad stage. He is a testament to the enduring spirit of folk-rock music - with a career that spans decades, from Maine to California to now New York City. His songwriting echoes the heartfelt storytelling of Tom Petty and the lyrical prowess of Bob Dylan. His acoustic guitar is an extension of his soul, weaving melodies to resonate across generations.
Hosted by Bernie Furshpan - a live entertainment producer who has brought performances to iconic venues including Lincoln Center, Hammerstein Ballroom, and The Town Hall. He is the former owner of the renowned Metropolitan Room, a world-record holder for the longest-running variety show, and former Booking Director at The Triad Theater. During the pandemic, he launched MetropolitanZoom, a virtual studio that kept artists performing. Today, he runs podcasts on hmTv and is the subject of the PBS documentary The Weight of Memory: I Am Bernie Furshpan, available through April 2029.
