The Dominican Jazz Project is an ensemble that includes some of the most internationally renowned musicians living in the Dominican Republic, Sandy Gabriel, Guy Frómeta, and David Almengod, who have toured and recorded with Latin pop star, Juan Luis Guerra and Cuban/Puerto Rican bassist, Ramón Vázquez, who has toured internationally with the legendary Cuban pianist, Chucho Valdés. Founded in 2014, they have performed at important festivals in the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and Cuba - the 2024 Festival Internacional de Cuba, the 2019 Dominican Republic Jazz Festival, the 2018 Sajoma Jazz Festival, and made three appearances at the Jazzomania Jazz Festival in Santo Domingo, DR) as well as tours performing at universities and jazz clubs across the eastern United States. The band received two awards in the 2023 Indie Dominicano (Best Jazz Album and Best Jazz Song), The DJP was invited to the Palacio Nacional for the condecoracion (formal decoration) ceremony of bandmate, Guillo Carias, where they met and took photos with Presidente Luis Abinader, president of the Dominican Republic (April 2022). Stephen Anderson (director, composer, pianist) was formally distinguished by the Ministra de Cultura, Señora Milagros Germán, on behalf of the government in the Dominican Republic for "his research and contributions to the national musical heritage... with "his sound works of fusion with jazz, our rhythms have traveled with our seal of identity."
