John Lamkin II & The Favorites Jazz Quintet is a traditional jazz quintet patterned after some of the most famous hard bop groups of the 60s, 70s, and 80s. Their sound is reminiscent of the quintets led by Miles Davis, Art Blakey, Horace Silver, and many others of the era. Their original music, taken from their two recent CDs “Transitions” and “Movin’,” touches on several contemporary jazz styles, including Latin, rock, fusion, smooth jazz, funk, and hip-hop. The primary goal of the group is to create and perform music that resonates with all music lovers - the casual jazz listener who likes to dance and move to the music, the informed jazz aficionado who takes pleasure listening intently to the musicians, and those who simply enjoy good music!
