Kemi Adegoroye is an award-winning soul and jazz-inspired singer-songwriter based in Washington, DC. Her performances have been described as "nothing short of magical, blending smooth jazz melodies with a silky, rich voice that instantly draws you in." Since 2019, Kemi has performed at notable Mid-Atlantic venues like the Historic Palace Theater, Nationals Park, Pearl Street Warehouse, Union Stage, Jammin Java, and Mr. Henry’s; performed live on television and radio; and performed internationally in France and Nigeria. Prior to that, Kemi toured as a featured soloist with the Princeton University Chapel Choir in the Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary, and Italy.
On Valentine's Day 2020, Kemi released her first original Motown-inspired single, The Man Who Stole the Moon, for which she became a 2021 Wammie Awards Finalist. A year later, she released her debut soul EP, For the Record, earning two finalist spots in the 2022 Wammie Awards for Best R&B/Soul Album and Best R&B/Soul Artist. In 2022, The Capital Hearings a capella group honored Kemi as the Featured Songwriter for their 2022 Songwriter Showcase with a commissioned a capella arrangement of The Man Who Stole the Moon. Later that year, Kemi released Live with Terra Firma with her jazz and R&B project, Terra Firma the Band, recorded live at the legendary Virginia venue Jammin Java. The album features crowd-favorite covers and original songs, distinctive for the band's genre-blending sound and Kemi’s vivid lyrics.
Kemi’s latest releases include the R&B groove In My Corner and the intimate and soulful those rainy days. In My Corner pays tribute to R&B hits by iconic artists like Brandy and TLC, featuring a rhythmic groove produced by multi-instrumentalist Chris Hon and a nostalgia-filled music video that won a 2024 Telly Award. those rainy days is a quietly introspective song with musical theatre and soul-pop influences. Currently, Kemi is writing new music, grounded as always in the power of authentic storytelling.
