Alison Crockett

Groove Mosaic is a vibrant, soul-stirring journey through the many sounds of Alison Crockett’s dynamic career, celebrating groove in all its forms. From straight-ahead jazz to hip-hop, house to neo soul, Crockett weaves together the rhythms of Black American music into a powerful, uplifting tapestry. Each song is a sound postcard you carry home in your ears and spirit — music that moves the body and feeds the soul. With her unmistakable voice and deep rhythmic sensibility, Alison doesn’t just perform, she transforms the room. This is more than a show; it’s a joyful, energizing, and spiritual musical experience. A multi-award-winning artist who has taken her music across the globe, Crockett delivers a show that connects, inspires, and grooves from the inside out. Groove Mosaic is a celebration of rhythm, emotion, and movement, inviting audiences to listen deeply — and dance freely.

Two-time Wammie Award-winning vocalist Alison Crockett stands at the intersection of tradition and innovation in jazz. Known for her ability to swing, groove, and stir the soul, Crockett has built a vibrant career performing across the jazz, soul, and electronic scenes of Philadelphia, New York, and Washington, DC. As jazz journalist Eugene Holley puts it, “She is fluent in jazz, at home with the blues, and is straight outta the R&B/soul idiom. If she can sing it, she can swing it!”

Alison’s breakout moment came in the late ’90s as the featured voice on DJ/King Britt’s Sylk 130 and the genre-bending jazz/hip-hop group Us3. These collaborations gave her an international platform and cemented her status as a go-to vocalist for music that pushed creative boundaries. From there, she immersed herself in the Philadelphia jazz and soul scenes, working with forward-thinking players like Orrin Evans, Mike Boone, and Matt Parish. Later, she made her mark in New York City, fronting Greg Osby’s band and becoming a dynamic presence in the downtown jazz, soul, and house music communities.

Her solo work has drawn fans from both sides of the Atlantic, beginning with her acclaimed debut On Becoming A Woman, whose single “Like Rain” hit #3 on BBC Radio 1’s Worldwide chart. Alison followed that success with the deep house reimagining The Return of Diva Blue, featuring remixes by DJ Spinna, Yam Who?, and Mark de Clive-Lowe, before flipping the script again with Bare, an intimate acoustic set. Her 2012 release Mommy, What’s a Depression? stood out as a bold political jazz mixtape, taking on topics like economic inequality, gentrification, war, and immigration with the fearless spirit of Nina Simone and Marvin Gaye.

In recent years, Crockett has expanded her palette even further. After several trips to Brazil, she recorded the lush, jazz-inflected EP Obrigada, collaborating with Brazilian pianist Felipi Silviera and blending Afro-Brazilian rhythms with her soul-jazz roots. That global influence now lives side-by-side with her deep grounding in American jazz and soul, making her sound at once grounded and expansive.

Her most recent project, Echoes of an Era Redux: My Father’s Record Collection Vol. 1, recorded live for Blues Alley at The Press Club in Washington, DC, brings her full circle. This intimate performance pays homage to the music that filled her childhood home—jazz, soul, and funk records spun every night by her father in what the family called “the Florida Room.” The series offers Crockett’s modern take on the classics that shaped her, honoring Black American Music not as museum pieces but as living, breathing art.
