Andrew Kreitner, tenor saxophone/compositions
Emerson Borg, trumpet
Aleko Lionikis, piano
Knox Barber, bass
Kevin Kearny, drums
Description: Baltimore-based Andrew Kreitner gravitated towards the tenor saxophone as a way to separate himself from his “womb-mates”; his triplet brothers. Whether teaching, performing, or composing, Andrew presents jazz that celebrates this exact sense of individuality. As a recent graduate of the Peabody Institute Graduate Jazz Fellowship program, Andrew’s compositions saw performances at the Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival, Baltimore x Baltimore Festival, and the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg Center. He strives to mobilize his students, collaborators, and listeners to express their unique musical point-of-view.
The Andrew Kreitner Band debuts a brand-new book of compositions for jazz quintet. Drawing inspiration from the hard-bop lineage, Andrew presents music honoring his personal heroes: Hank Mobley, Duke Pearson, and Tom Harrell. He is proud to share the bandstand with close peers, each representing a modernization of their own particular idols. A lineup of refreshing young voices, the Andrew Kreitner band showcases a conversation that is greater than the sum of its parts.
