Growing up in North and South Carolina, Kat Robertson and Stevie Keese have been dancing and singing since before they could walk or talk. Following fairly similar life paths in their early years, Kat and Stevie both attended boarding arts high schools, Kat studying ballet at the UNC School of the Arts and Stevie theatre at the SC Governor’s School for the Arts. Upon graduating high school, their paths fatefully intercepted when they both committed to undergrad programs at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. Though still immersed in their respective studies of dance and theatre, the two became close friends only a few weeks into freshman year.
Stevie and Kat’s friendship really bloomed and blossomed when they were both cast in the 24 Hour production of Hairspray. SMU did a 24 Hour Musical every year, where they would choose a long weekend and dedicate 24 hours of rehearsal over two days, culminating in a 2pm matinee on Easter Sunday. Through the years, both were involved in 24-Hour Musical in various capacities - performers, producers, choreographers and directors.
Unluckily for Kat and Stevie, and every other person on track to graduate from anything in 2020 or 2021, Covid came 2 months before “graduation” which put all of that arts education on pause for a bit. Kat moved right to NYC and Stevie moved to Chicago, both of them making it up for a few years by taking odd jobs in corporate America. Two years later, Stevie made her way to NYC as a restaurant manager, joining Kat and friends in the rat race that we all know and love.
So, here they are, in the Upper West Side, ready to enjoy an evening of music in which you will be blessed by the sounds of Kat and Stevie singing and blabbing along about their journey through the last 9 years of life as the best of friends. They hope this cabaret inspires you to call your friend who lives across the country, to text the group chat and plan a group hang, to remind you to hold the people you get to call friends extra close today and everyday. Friendship is such a special gift, and they are excited to share with you how theirs has brought beauty and love into their lives. Please don’t hold your applause, let’s have fun tonight! #livelaughlove
