Led by bassist Phil Ravita and including some of the DMV's finest musicians, Ravita Jazz returns to Mr. Henry's with new and classic tunes. Enjoy jazz, funk and blues from of the band’s latest recording. Alice Blue has risen steadily on jazz radio charts since its May release. Jazz journalist Raul da Gama calls the music "relevant and enduring," lauding the album's "beautifully crafted arrangements." Hear originals such as “Golden Sky” and “Almost Blue,” which are getting airplay throughout North America! Jazz lovers will also be treated to tunes by Bill Evans and Duke Ellington. You can't please everyone, but with this set list, you can come pretty darn close!
One of the Mid-Atlantic’s most versatile and sought after bassists, Dr. Ravita appears with many jazz and classical ensembles. He is a college and university jazz professor and hosts a weekly radio program on WMTB 89.9 FM. He has shared the stage with jazz greats Jimmy Heath, Bobby Shew, Claudio Roditi and Ruby Glover, appearing in countless clubs, concert halls and festivals. He won critical acclaim for his work with Grasso-Ravita Jazz Ensemble on the group’s 2021 recording Jagged Spaces, and released Oriana with his band, Ravita Jazz in 2023.
