A multi-instrumentalist, bandleader, and composer, Mathuin (MATH-wynn) is a passionate musician and intensely curious
student of all types music, including jazz, classical, rock, pop, folk, and more. Mathuin has received numerous recognitions and awards, including recent meritorious honor as a Pressler Scholar.
• Director, National Jazz Workshop All-star Alumni Big Band
• Presser Scholar: Received this prestigious honor-award in recognition of his accomplishments and passionate peer-
leadership in jazz and classical music
• Argentina Tour: Performing as principal oboe in Buenos Aires and other cities in Argentina with Shenandoah Conservatory Symphony Orchestra
• Orfeo Music Festival, Italy: Received a merit scholarship to the Orfeo Music Festival in Vipiteno, Italy
• National Symphony Orchestra (NSO): Competitively selected and studied as an NSO Young Associate in Washington DC
• American Youth Philharmonic Orchestra: Alumnus of the top orchestra of this acclaimed program, which provides competitive world-class training and performance opportunities for musicians
• National Jazz Workshop: Received a competitive merit-scholarship to the National Jazz Workshop, based on his multi-instrument performances at the Chantilly Jazz Festival
• All-Virginia Bands: During his high-school years, Mathuin was selected into a wide variety of honor bands and ensembles, including winning competitive selection into the top bands for both All-Virginia Jazz (tenor saxophone) and All-Virginia Orchestra (oboe & english horn).
