Remembering Baltimore Jazz Legends and
An die Musik Live’s emcee George “Doc” Manning on his birthdate
Rhonda Robinson, vocals/flute
Damien Noble, piano
Jeron White, bass
Jesse Moody, drums
The ensemble will explore the music and stories that our late emcee George “Doc” Manning could tell you about for MANY hours!! Eubie Blake, Chick Webb, Ethel Ennis and Billie Holiday are some of the world’s most beloved jazz pioneers who grew and developed their craft in the fertile ground of Baltimore.
Complementing her emcee and bar roles here at An die Musik, Rhonda Robinson (vocals/flute), is a mainstay performer in the Baltimore/Washington music scene, interpreting classic American jazz standards and new material, and bringing a fresh and "progressive edge" to timeless material. As part of Baltimore Office of Promotion & the Arts’ Free Fall Baltimore series, she presented her cabaret jazz show, “Jazz Crept Into My Life" at the Eubie Blake Cultural Center in a program that included storytelling and song. She has performed with Carl Grubbs, George Garzone, Benito Gonzalez, Gary Thomas, and opened for Amiri Baraka's Blue Ark Quartet. For over 7 years, she was the featured vocalist for Jazz Vespers at Holy Comforter Church. She has sung for over 20 years with Peabody Conservatory choral ensembles and Joyous Voices carolers.
Damien Noble, piano, a Baltimore native and Peabody Institute graduate, is a mainstay on the regional music scene. During his career, Damien has collaborated with many wonderful artists such as Mike Clark, Gary Thomas, Carl Grubbs, and others. Damien loves helping, serving and giving back to the local, national and international communities.
Jeron White, bass, plays on the Washington-Baltimore and New York City jazz/avant garde scene. He leads his own group, Polarity, and is featured on several recordings. Polarity opened for Michael Formanek's "Ensemble Kolossus" April 2017 at NYU Theater. His discography includes Jamal Moore's "Organix Trio Ancestral Communion" four-part series, Theljon Allen's "Prospective", Dimitri Nassar's "Crescent Piano" in 2020 and "America in The Key of Black" in 2024.
Jesse "Jay" Moody, drums/percussion, has 35+ years of professional experience. Jay performed for Presidents Jimmy Carter and Barack Obama. He has recorded on many albums including his own "Notes from the Family" in 2017. Hereceived many awards; in 2014 was recognized for his contributions in music by the House of Representatives, State of MD and Baltimore City. Jay has performed with Dionne Warwick, Eddie Levert, Cyrus Chestnut, Benito Gonzalez, and many others. He performed on local TV show and had a role in the Barry Levinson movie, Avalon.
