Doug Carn Hammond B3 Organ Trio

Doug Carn, Hammond B3 organ
Tim Green, sax
Eric Kennedy, drums

Doug Carn is a classically trained multi-instrumentalist who plays jazz. He is one of the few remaining masters of the Hammond B-3 organ. From baroque organ styles to subdued bossa nova piano styles, Doug is the kind of virtuoso who can literally play anything.

Carn's career dates back to the 1960's. He released eight solo albums that had a political mood emphasizing peace, love and independence. After the assassination of Dr. King, Doug moved to Hollywood where he performed on Earth, Wind, and Fire's first two albums. Shortly thereafter, he started making his own compositions and writing his own lyrics.

Doug's West Coast Organ Band includes Dr. Teodross Avery and Howard Wiley on tenor saxes and Deszon Claiborne on drums. The band lacks a bassist because Doug Carn plays all the needed low notes on his organ with his feet, while using both hands on the keys. Doug has performed and recorded on piano, keyboards and organ with Freddie Hubbard, Stanley Turrentine, Wallace Roney, Curtis Fuller, Benny Golson, Cindy Blackman, Houston Person, Abbey Lincoln, Javon Jackson, Eddie Henderson, Idris Muhammad, Michael Urbaniak and Charles Tolliver.

Forging a deeply personal sound from a broad swath of the jazz landscape, internationally acclaimed saxophonist, educator, composer, arranger and Baltimore native Tim Green has emerged as a powerful voice, melding deftly swinging hard bop, fluid modernity and soulful gospel.

Green has had a diverse career crossing all genres of music that includes playing with some of the most recognized and established names in jazz, gospel, R&B, hip hop and pop music. Those artists include Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Queen Latifah, Kirk Franklin, Donnie McClurkin, Yolanda Adams, Israel Houghton, Michael Bublé, Ariana Grande, Tori Kelly, Christian McBride, Mulgrew Miller, Eric Reed, Kenny Garrett, Ravi Coltrane, Mary J Blige, Mariah Carey, Fantasia, Toni Braxton, Earth Wind and Fire, Aretha Franklin, Jennifer Hudson, Jill Scott and more. Green has returned to Baltimore where he is a key component of the city’s burgeoning jazz and music education community.

Tim graduated from the Baltimore School for the Arts, earned a Bachelor of Music from the Manhattan School of Music and a Master’s in Jazz Studies from the University of Southern California’s Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz where he was guided by legends like Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter and Terence Blanchard.

Eric Kennedy is a Baltimore native, drummer, vocalist, percussionist, educator and composer. Eric’s introduction to all styles of music and early music training was initiated by his musical relatives, who also cultivated his love of jazz. Eric continued his arts education at the Baltimore School for the Arts studying classical percussion and voice with Baltimore Symphony Orchestra percussionist John Locke, Donna Di Stefano and the late Dr. Nathan Carter and Ms. Jewel Churn of Frederick Douglass HIgh School. Eric has studied percussion and technique with legendary drummers Edgar Bateman, Johnny Polite, Billy Hart, Leroy Williams, Jamal Wilson and Clayton Cameron, voice with Timothy Shepherd and Odell Wilson and harmony/theory with Dr. Barry Harris.
