Experience an unforgettable evening with Shannon Gunn’s Saffron Ensemble — a phenomenal chamber jazz group featuring trombone, strings, and rhythm section. Since its premiere at the Jazz and Freedom Festival in Washington, DC, the ensemble has created musical experiences around original music written specifically for that ensemble.
Blurring the lines between jazz, chamber music, and popular styles, the Saffron Ensemble creates music that is both deeply emotional and boldly exploratory. Every instrument participates in the improvisational conversation, including the strings, resulting in performances that are spontaneous, immersive, and high energy.
The ensemble will feature selections from “The Emperor and the Pope,” Shannon Gunn’s new original suite exploring the tension of power, conviction, and justice when opposing sides both believe they are right.
