Nailah Porter’s artistic practice is rooted in remembrance, liberation, and joy.
The Winston-Salem, NC native released her debut album ConJazzNess on EmArcy/Universal Music Group. Her music has been featured in film and television, and her lyrics, poetry, and photography are featured in various anthologies, including Voices from Leimert Park Redux, and the Altadena Poetry Review: Anthology 2024.
Nailah has written and recorded with Billy Childs, Jeff Lorber, Tom Scott, pianist-composer Deron Johnson (Miles Davis) and bassist Curtis Robertson, Jr. (Les McCann, Syreeta Wright, Gary Bartz). She has also recorded and toured internationally across genres with various artists, including Beck, Warren G, Dove Shack, John Cale (Velvet Underground), Cold War Kids, Cree Summer, Leon Mobley, and Italian jazz artists Nicola Conte and Gabriele Poso. A graduate of UNC-Greensboro and NCCU School of Law, Nailah recently completed her first collection of poetry and photography, CarolinaBlueBlack TobaccoStainedWisdom. Her latest recording, Ritual of Mapping, is a multi-media project that honors cultural memory, resilience, and joy.
