The Oscar Acevedo Quartet has been performing since 1982 with a repertoire that includes original compositions, jazz standards and Colombian popular music in a jazz setting. Pianist and composer Oscar Acevedo graduated from Berklee College of Music in 1983. He teaches at Universidad de Los Andes and since 2006 works as music critic for El Tiempo, Colombia's principal newspaper.
Recordings of the Quartet include "A Toda Costa" (2017); "Jazz Colombiano En Vivo," the first jazz DVD produced entirely in Colombia (2013); “Dialogue with Evolution,” (2000); "Como un Libro Abierto" (1996); and "Dedicatoria" (1999), along with a number of collaborations in other albums.
The group has performed in festivals and venues around the world including the New Delhi Jazz Festival in India, Festival Jazz Plaza de Cuba, Berklee Red Room Cafe in Boston, Caracas Jazz Festival, Recontres Cinemas D'Amerique Latine in Toulouse, France, Mercat de Musica de Vic in Catalunya, Casa de las Americas in Madrid, Bolivia International Jazz Festival in La Paz, Palacio de Foz in Lisbon, Centro Cultural San Martin in Buenos Aires and Teatro Municipal de Valparaiso in Chile.
Performances and recordings with world class musicians and institutions include the Paul Winter Consort, Armando Manzanero, Steve Smith, Berklee Jazz Choir, Ernesto Simpson, Rudy Berger, Orquesta Sinfónica de Colombia, Diego Urcola, Back Bay Chorale, Orquesta Sinfónica de la UNAB, Oscar Stagnaro, Big band UNIBAC, Orquesta Filarmónica juvenil de Bogotá and Valeriano Lanchas among others.
In Colombia, the group has played at Festival de Jazz Teatro Libre, Jazz Al Parque, Mompox Jazz Festival, Voces del Jazz, Pastojazz, Orquesta Sinfónica de Colombia, Orquesta Sinfónica de la UNAB, Orquesta Filarmónica Juvenil de Bogotá, Teatro Colón, Teatro Colsubsidio, Auditorio León de Greiff, Sala Luis Ángel Arango, Teatro Santander and performances in Medellin, Cali, Barranquilla and many other cities.
