The music of the band Inscape is heavily influenced by John Coltrane’s style of modal jazz, developed in the early to mid-1960s. The band and their identity evolved as a result of collaboration between pianist Greg Murphy, bassist Joris Teepe, (former members of the legendary Rashied Ali Quintet), tenor saxophonist Mark Shim (known for his work with Betty Carter, Terrence Blanchard & Vijay Iyer), and drummer Alvester Garnett (known for his association with Regina Carter & Clark Terry).
