Broadway veteran Susann Fletcher tackles one of the last taboos in theatre…aging! With irreverence, insight and decades of experience under her belt, she dives in to these dark waters and emerges with a show that empowers, uplifts and most importantly, entertains.
Susann has spent the last forty five years appearing in a succession of Broadway shows, national tours, regional and stock performances. She was last seen on Broadway and on tour with The Full Monty, winning rave reviews for her portrayal of Georgie Bukatinsky. Immediately preceding that, she was on the road as Dolly Tate in the First National Tour of Annie Get Your Gun. That performance garnered her a National Broadway Theatre Award nomination. She has been seen on Broadway as Smitty in How To Succeed… and Miss Adelaide in Guys and Dolls. She created the role of Donna Douglas in the original Broadway company of The Goodbye Girl, starring Bernadette Peters and Martin Short. She was an original company member of the Tony Award winning Jerome Robbins’ Broadway, where she recreated such classic roles as Miss Electra from Gypsy, Golde from Fiddler on the Roof and the Timid Girl from Billionaire Dollar Baby and more. She was an original company member of the ill fated Broadway production of Raggedy Ann. Her first Broadway show was The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas in which she played Ruby Rae and closed the show as Angel. Other national tours include How to Succeed…, Jerome Robbins’ Broadway, My One and Only, …Patent Leather Shoes…?, Puttin’ on the Ritz and more. Ms. Fletcher had the honor of playing Phyllis Diller’s daughter in a tour of Roger and Hammerstein’s Cinderella. Other regional credits include Oklahoma, (Aunt Eller) Full Monty, (Georgette) The Spitfire Grill, Annie,(Miss Hannigan) Whorehouse (as Miss Mona), White Christmas, A Christmas Carrol, Always Patsy Cline, Pal Joey, (Barrymore Award nomination) and many more. She has been in nine productions at the MUNY, receiving a Kevin Kline nomination for her performance as Velma Van Tussle in Hairspray. A true triple threat, Susann has had the honor of working with some of the greatest creatives that Broadway ever produced including Jerome Robbins, Stephen Sondheim, Leonard Bernstein, Jule Stein, Neil Simon, Marvin Hamlisch, David Zippel, Graciela Danielle, Michael Kidd, Tommy Tune, Jerry Mitchell, Wayne Cilento, Jack O’Brien, Michael John LaChiusa and so many more.
Television and film include the starring role in Blood Sucking Pharoahs in Pittsburg (don’t ask!), Kristin’s Last Christmas, Stand up Guys, and a bunch of soaps before their demises. Also a playwright, Susann’s musical, A Girl Called Dusty had its world premiere at The Provincetown Rep Theatre. Her play, Soft Spot, was selected for the 2014 Playwrights Festival at The Actors Studio.
Originally from Richmond, VA, Susann is a graduate of Longwood University.
