"These concerts celebrate the timeless continuum of human expression: melody, harmony, rhythm, texture, orchestration, and form are collectively reimagined as the music unfolds in real time. This collective approach to spontaneous musical invention seats the audience at the very edge of the creative process, mutually absorbing both listeners and musicians into the ever-unfolding moment. The resulting symbiotic relationship reveals a world of communal possibility, highlighting the significance of the embodied, palpable experience of live music performed for live audiences." - Derrick Michaels

Baltimore-native Derrick Michaels is a tenor saxophonist and improviser with a deep sound and a bold, imaginative presence in the creative music community. With roots in both the lyrical and exploratory branches of the creative saxophone tradition, his wide expressive palette brings a soulful, melodic sincerity to a wide range of musical environments.

Trumpeter/Composer Dave Ballou can be heard in a variety of settings; from solo trumpet improvisations to large ensembles performing notated compositions. His recordings as a leader can be found on the Steeplechase, CleanFeed and pfMentum record labels. He was an orchestra member for the Tony Award winning Broadway revival of 42nd St. (2001-2004).
Ballou received Individual Artist Awards from the Maryland State Arts Council in 2009 and 2015.

John Lee is a boundary-pushing guitarist, composer, and educator based in Washington, D.C., whose music defies conventional genres and brings together a kaleidoscope of global influences. Known for his innovative playing and exploratory compositions, Lee has become a fixture in the region's music scene and a respected figure in modern jazz and experimental music circles.

Baltimore native Eric Kennedy is a drummer, vocalist, percussionist, educator, arranger and composer. He started performing at the age of three with a family band and encouraged by visiting local and national musicians. Eric has received numerous awards and grants for performance and composition. He was the 2004 runner-up in the Billie Holiday Vocal Competition and first-place band member in the Chick Webb Jazz Combo Competitions 2008 and 2009.
