The Chesapeake Youth Symphony Orchestra – 4:00 PM Sunday, April 19th 

The Mainstay in Rock Hall is pleased to welcome the very accomplished young musicians of the Chesapeake Youth Symphony Orchestra (CYSO) on April 19 at 4:00 PM. This special concert will showcase ensembles and soloists from this acclaimed non-profit youth orchestra program based in Annapolis. The CYSO, now in its 36th season, serves students from 8 years of age through 18 from throughout the region.

Ensemble pieces on the program include the "Spring" movement from Antonio Vivaldi's Four Seasons, Elegy by Gabriel Fauré, and Edvard Grieg's Holberg Suite. There also will be solo performances by CYSO members.

The performances will prove the success of the CYSO’s mission "to ignite a passion for music by offering high-quality ensemble experiences that build musicianship, confidence, and community". In addition to weekly rehearsals, performing in multiple concerts each season, and participating in special events such as master classes, community collaborations, and a Concerto Competition, CYSO members have the opportunity to perform in venues such as Carnegie Hall and in great concert halls internationally.

The young musicians' last biennial trip was last summer when they went to Finland where they performed in concert halls throughout the country. They are scheduled to tour and perform in Japan in the summer of 2027.

This concert by the Chesapeake Youth Symphony Orchestra is part of the Hedgelawn Classical Music Series that presents a wide array of classical music performances in The Mainstay's intimate performance space. The Series is in memory of Judy Kohl, whose support for music and the arts encouraged classical music programming at The Mainstay and throughout the Eastern Shore community.
