Born in North Carolina with Brazilian roots, Noites Carolinas (“Carolina Nights”) is a choro ensemble based in the Triangle. Choro originated in the late 1800s, as Brazilian musicians reimagined European music genres with syncopated African rhythms. Hailing from Brazil, Mexico and the U.S., the members of Noites Carolinas are torchbearers of the modern choro tradition, combining classical virtuosity with the energy and playful improvisation characteristic of the genre.
