Award-winning vocalist, Danielle Wertz, and 4x Grammy-nominated composer/saxophonist Remy Le Boeuf present their upcoming album release: Silent Course. Rooted in the jazz tradition with overlaps into contemporary classical and folk realms, this collaboration with the Nordkraft Big Band (Denmark) features Remy’s arrangements of his and Danielle’s compositions along with that of Joni Mitchell and Madison Cunningham.
Danielle Wertz is an award-winning artist rapidly gaining national acclaim. After being named a 2015 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Vocals Competition semi-finalist, Danielle’s debut album, Intertwined, ranked #4 on Capital Bop's list of "Best DC Jazz Albums of 2017.” That same year Danielle placed 2nd in the Ella Fitzgerald Jazz Vocal Competition and 3rd in the Mid-Atlantic Jazz Vocal Competition. Described as, "untarnished by the politics of music" (Jazz Music Archives) and "at home alongside more contemporary exponents of improvised singing" (LoudMouth, AU) she is known for blending modern jazz and folk to create intimate and emotionally resonant compositions.
After years of being an avid collaborator in the jazz world, in 2022 Danielle was asked to co-create and co-star in Signature Theatre’s production of Both Sides Now: The Music and Lives of Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen. DC Theatre Arts called her performance “enchanting and reverent” and this project continues to tour nationally.
In 2023 Danielle released her sophomore album, Other Side, via Outside in Music. With this project she made a quantum leap as a composer and conceptualist. Reimagined and rewritten during the pandemic, the album pairs her compositions with carefully crafted arrangements of standards from the Great American Songbook. Jazziz called the album “expressive and polished” and Jazz Weekly noticed a “Joni Mitchell’d tenderness to her material.” Danielle was awarded a 2023 Jazz Road Tours grant from South Arts and self-produced a national release tour spanning three months including venues such as Blues Alley Jazz in DC, Chris’ Jazz Cafe in Philadelphia, Sam First in Los Angeles and Sharp Nine Gallery in North Carolina.
Danielle continues to be an avid collaborator and active member of the NYC jazz scene. She is featured on Remy LeBoeuf’s latest album, Heartland Radio, has headlined The Jazz Gallery, Soapbox Gallery and Room 623, and just returned from a west coast tour with her latest collaborator, Tal Yahalom, which included two sold-out shows at SFJAZZ in San Francisco. Danielle is looking forward to headlining her first European tour in September 2025.
Remy Le Boeuf is a 4x Grammy-nominated composer and saxophonist whose music is rooted in the jazz tradition and overlaps into contemporary classical and indie-rock realms. Le Boeuf is also the founder of the jazz orchestra, Assembly of Shadows, and the Chief Conductor of the Nordkraft Big Band. He has worked with a range of collaborators including the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, Linda Oh, Dayna Stephens, Haim, Knower, JACK Quartet, and his twin brother Pascal, with whom he co-leads the experimental quintet, Le Boeuf Brothers.
Le Boeuf's list of honors include commissions from Chamber Music America, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, and the Symphonic Jazz Orchestra, as well as 7 ASCAP Young Composer Awards, the BMI Charlie Parker Jazz Prize, and the Copland House Residency Award.
Le Boeuf is the Director of Jazz and Commercial Music Studies at the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music.
