“To Be Bold, Gifted and a Black Woman - Honoring Black Women in Music". You won’t want to miss this special debut as Taylor will be paying tribute to black women in music in honor of Women’s History Month. She will be covering popular classics and jazz standards, all written, composed and/or famously performed by black women. This show will honor the bold women who have made a lasting impression in music and deeply inspired Taylor throughout her journey. Additionally, Taylor will be performing some of her very own dynamic original compositions and electric arrangements for the first time.
A Cleveland native, Taylor is a vocalist, arranger, and composer. She is a double HBCU alumna, graduating Magnum Cum Laude from Central State University with a bachelor’s degree in jazz studies and a master’s degree in jazz vocal performance from Howard University. Taylor is also a former member of Afro Blue, Howard University’s premier Jazz Vocal Ensemble. In addition to this, Taylor performs with professional music organizations within the DC area, such as the Washington Douglass Choral founded by Nolan Williams and Scott Tucker and the Washington Women’s Jazz Festival founded by Amy K. Bormet. Taylor has also arranged for various artists and vocal groups within the DC area. Taylor is very active as a music educator. She served as a Howard University Professor in the Jazz Voice Department and jazz vocal instructor for the Washington Jazz Arts Institute, founded by Davey Yarborough. In addition to this, Taylor is a private piano and voice teacher and on the music faculty at Duke Ellington, serving as a theory instructor, and the Director of both the highly acclaimed voice ensembles – The MellowTones, and the Voices in Motion Show Choir. Taylor’s jazz ensemble, The MellowTones, made their debut at Blues Alley this past December, and now Taylor is excited to share her very own music at her Blue’s Alley debut.
