His Ribs & Brisket project plants its feet squarely where the Borscht Belt intersects 52nd Street. Shapiro scored Cheryl Dunye’s award winning Watermelon Woman. Recording credits include Lou Reed, Queen Latifah, David Byrne, Cowboy Bebop, Rufus Wainwright, Jay-Z, Frankie Knuckles, Ofra Haza, Michael Jackson, The Microscopic Septet, Brooklyn Funk Essentials, his own 80’s punk funk band Foreign Legion.
