Emilio Solla & Bien Sur! Emilio Solla, Piano & Compositions Tim Armacost, Tenor Sax Edward Pérez, Bass Rogério Boccato, Drums Latin GRAMMY winner and 6x GRAMMY nominee Emilio Solla leads Bien Sur!, his New York-based quartet where his Argentine roots, jazz improvisation, and chamber-like sophistication converge. Anchored by Solla’s masterful piano and compositions, the ensemble channels the rhythmic pulse of tango, the melodic depth of South American folk traditions, and the adventurousness of modern jazz. Featuring an all-star band of longtime collaborators — Tim Armacost on tenor sax, Edward Pérez on bass, and Rogério Boccato on drums — Bien Sur! offers an intimate expression of Solla’s voice. With compositions that balance intricate architecture and improvisational freedom, Bien Sur! distills Solla’s celebrated large-ensemble aesthetic into a dynamic and elegant small-group setting that affirms Solla's status as one of today’s most compelling composer-bandleaders.
Emilio Solla has been lauded for his artistry in summoning global styles and rhythms. His aesthetic eloquence can be experienced in his Latin GRAMMY-winning album, Puertos: Music from International Waters. The master composer-arranger has also earned six GRAMMY nominations. Solla has performed at some of the most iconic venues in Europe, Latin America, and the United States alongside Jazz and Latin legends such as Paquito D’Rivera, Billy Hart, Arturo O’Farrill, Edmar Castañeda, Silk Road Ensemble member Cristina Pato, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the WDR Big Band. Of his piano performances, The New York Times has said, “The virile throb of Astor Piazzolla’s nuevo tango is omnipresent in the pianist Emilio Solla’s stately pulse.” Solla and his nine-piece La Inestable de Brooklyn recently released their new album, Handmade, on the Club del Disco label.
