Tue Dec 16
An evening of songs by Michael Lydon, The Handsomest Man in the World, performed by superstar friends and colleagues including Todd Almond, Jessica Crandall, Pamela Bob, Ann Harvey, Mike Weatherly, Steven Herring, Daniel Neer, Matt Stapleton, and Ellen Mandel, pianist and music director. Hear some of Michael's greatest hits, including "Pass It On" and "Paris in the Rain." Plus excerpts from Michael's writing for the NY Times, Rolling Stone, and his books Rock Folk, Ray Charles Man and Music and more.
Michael was a founding editor of Rolling Stone magazine, went to Mississippi to cover the civil rights voter registration movement, travelled with the Rolling Stones on their 1969 tour of America that ended with the infamous concert at Altamont, interviewed John Lennon and Paul McCartney for Newsweek in Swinging London, toured the South with B.B. King and interviewed Janis Joplin for the New York Times, and wrote about Bo Diddley, John Lee Hooker and many others.
Inspired by a lifelong love of music and the musicians he mingled with, Lydon took up the guitar in 1970, and added a career as a singer/songwriter to his career as a writer. The brilliant lyrics of his songs—whether poignant, romantic, or biting—combine perfectly with his infectious music, swinging pop/jazz.
