Philadelphia-based jazz vocalist Tina Hashemi returns to Blues Alley with A Lady Loves, a program of jazz standards and songs from the Great American Songbook in honor of Women’s History Month.
Tina Hashemi is a jazz vocalist based in Central Virginia and Philadelphia, recognized for her pure, unaffected tone, her sense of swing, and her creativity as an improviser with big ears and stores of imagination. A graduate of the University of Virginia, she studied under renowned jazz artists Danielle Wertz, Stephanie Nakasian, and John D’earth.
Tina has quickly become a rising voice in the Mid-Atlantic jazz scene. Paul Langosch, who played with Tony Bennet for decades, Daniel Clarke, who was KD Lang’s pianist, and tenor saxophonist Charles Owens are now colleagues and fans of the sweet sensibility she brings to classic jazz standards and the Great American Songbook. In 2024, she earned 3rd place in the international Ella Fitzgerald Jazz Vocal Competition, hosted by Blues Alley and judged by the New York Voices.
Tina has headlined prominent venues including Blues Alley, The Paramount, Gallery 5, and the Ting Pavilion, and has performed at festivals such as the MAD Jazz Festival and the Lake Anna Jazz Festival. She also brings her expertise to educational settings, leading masterclasses at Eastern Mennonite University and for private studios. Tina continues to develop her distinctive voice within the tradition of classic jazz and the Great American Songbook.
