Andrew Latona
Guitarist Andrew Latona earns respect and admiration from audiences whenever he plays, whether it’s jamming locally with his Jazz heroes and contemporaries or leading his own trio internationally. Recent work by Andrew includes performances at Birdland (Manhattan), The Blue Note (Manhattan), Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola at Jazz at Lincoln Center, Jazz at Lincoln Center Shanghai (where his trio recently held a three-week residency), The Jazz Forum (Tarrytown NY) and the Performing Arts Center at Purchase College (Westchester, NY). Andrew has shared the stage with greats, including Jon Faddis, Butch Warren, Todd Coolman, Gary Thomas, Tom Harrell, Cecil Bridgewater, Renee Rosnes, and Bill Charlap.
In 2017, Andrew graduated with a degree in Jazz Studies from the Conservatory of Music at Purchase College-SUNY, where he was a member of the Purchase Jazz Orchestra; Andrew was recognized as Outstanding Senior in his class and awarded further accolades as a Purchase College-SUNY James Moody Scholar. Now based in Brooklyn, New York, Andrew grew up in Maryland in the greater Washington, D.C., area, with a background steeped in Gospel, Jazz, and Go-Go music; he is comfortable playing in a variety of genres. Andrew attended and played Sundays in a gospel church in D.C., and he also attended and took in the music at the Basilica of the National Shrine, where his father, Dr. Peter Latona, serves as the choir director and one of the principal organists. In Maryland, Andrew studied music with Paul Wingo, Paul Carr, and Gary Thomas; by age 16, he held gigs regularly around D.C. He also has roots in New Jersey, with extended family in the area. Andrew is also a capable teacher, providing one-on-one instruction as well as group lessons.
