Experience an unforgettable evening of music as saxophonist BJ Simmons brings his signature sound to Blues Alley, performing selections from his acclaimed new album, "Trapped In" alongside favorites from his earlier release Acronyms. This dynamic program weaves together the richness of soul, jazz, and R&B, featuring the powerful vocals of Imani-Grace Cooper and the soul-stirring poetry of Melani N. Douglass. Simmons will be joined by an all-star ensemble, including Dana Hawkins (drums), Frank Javois (bass), Terrence Cunningham of NBC’s The Voice (keys), and Tommy Holladay (guitar). Trapped In, Simmons’ latest genre-bending and introspective album, features 15 remarkable collaborations with leading artists such as Warren Wolf, Brandon Woody, Tarus Mateen, and many more. This performance brings that vision to life on stage, blending artistry, improvisation, and deep grooves into one electrifying night.

Now, Simmons prepares to release his third studio album, Trapped In—a genre-fusing project that confronts the many forms of entrapment we face socially, emotionally, and culturally. Featuring 15 carefully curated collaborations, the album brings together an eclectic mix of vocalists, instrumentalists, and producers to create a rich sonic landscape that is as urgent as it is expansive.
