CHARLES ‘RAHMAT’ WOODS has performed on flute or saxophone with Roy Haynes, Helen Humes, Don Cherry, Tarika Blue, Conjunto Peligro, Jean Paul Bourelly, Odean Pope’s Saxophone Choir, Eva Cassidy, Bantu, Little Helena, Klassic Kids of DC, Poetry in Motion, Charles Woods and Jazz-E, The Peace on Earth Ensemble, DC Jazz Festival’s Jazz for Healthier Generations, The Silver Spring Jazz Festival, The Jazz in the Park Festival, and others in New York, Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia Areas

Born in Buffalo NY and a resident of the state of Maryland, Woods has appeared with his own ensembles on radio and television broadcasts, and at a number of distinguished performance spaces. His theme music was used for the syndicated Native American cable TV show “Four Winds”. His song “Look What You Done to Me”, recorded with singer Sheila Skipworth, was used in the major feature film “Something New” starring Sanae Latham. His beautiful recording “Eleven Fifty Nine” was featured in the PBS documentary “July ‘64” by award-winning Rochester NY filmmaker Carvin Eison.

Woods’ recordings include: “Tarika Blue Notebook”; “Rahmat Shabazz Trio Plus”; “The Language of Birds”; “Live at Johnny’s Half Shell”; “DC Love Orchestra”; “Rahmat Shabazz Original Jazz”; “Modern Music Therapy: The Music of Roy Haynes”; and “The Stranger”, “Dance With Your Wife”, and “Look” with the C. Henry Woods Troupe. Charles Rahmat Woods is past President of the Syracuse University Alumni Jazz Appreciation Society, Secretary of the Listening Group of Washington, and is a Maryland Touring Artist with the Maryland State Arts Council. 

In honor of International Jazz Day 2021, Charles Rahmat Woods and his working quartet, (Rahmat - flutes/saxophones, Peter Frassrand– piano/keyboard, Emory Diggs – acoustic/electric bass, and Gus Johnson - drums) present an outstanding program of selections from his latest CD “Tarika Blue Notebook” and much more!
