Jesus “Chuchito” Valdés is a pianist, arranger, composer, and bandleader born in Havana, Cuba. He belongs to one of the most distinguished musical families in the country; he is the son of Chucho Valdés and Mercedes Alfaro Cortes, and the grandson of Bebo Valdés. Chuchito led the world-renowned band Irakere for several years, a group founded by his father.
He has performed at festivals, clubs, and concerts around the globe, primarily in the United States for large Latin Jazz audiences, as well as in South America and Europe. Chuchito is recognized as a master of Cuban music styles, including Mambo, Danzón, Cuban Timba, and Guaguancó. He has also extensively studied classical music, focusing on harmony and composition.
Chuchito has a deep passion for American Jazz, citing Oscar Peterson, Herbie Hancock, and Chick Corea as his favorite pianists, all of whom he has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with. In his latest project, titled "Reflections," he showcases his versatility through original compositions and arrangements, drawing on classical harmonic and structural techniques. Chuchito's energy is unparalleled among artists.
