The Whitney Project was formed in 2013 as an ensemble dedicated to performing the works of jazz composer Jonathan Whitney when he was the artist-in-residence at a church in Wilmington, DE. The ensemble incorporates earthy acoustic tones with electronic sounds to create a powerful mix of the past and the present. Jonathan’s compositions process his life as a black man, a father, a husband, and an activist who believes in the power of music to illuminate challenging and complex societal issues. He believes music creates a space for bridges to be built, joy to be spread, and norms to be challenged. His music takes the audience on a swinging journey through the rhythms of life!
